TARGET OF CHERRY EXPORTS 200 MILLION DOLLARS...

Turkey ranked first in the world production, while the export is experiencing the excitement of the new season cherries received third place. Cherry producers and exporters will join forces and in 2019, the EU aims to enter new markets while increasing our share in our current markets such as the Middle East.

Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association on February 1, in one of Turkey's most important cherry production centers organized by the Izmir Kemalpaşa "Cherry Manufacturers and Exporters Sectoral Review Meeting", the latter another powerful region in Turkey's cherry production was realized in Afyonkarahisar Sultandağı.

Hayrettin Uçak, Ege Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Union Chairman of the Board, Dr. Fatih Şen, Ege University Faculty of Agriculture Lecturer, Mehmet Fatih Tolga from the Directorate of Agricultural Research Institute of Bornova and Agricultural Engineer Hüseyin Gültekin informed producers about the production of cherry suitable for export and answered their questions.

On the other hand Zekeriyya Erdurmuş, General Director of Animal Husbandry, Neslihan Alper from Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ibrahim Acar, Afyonkarahisar Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forest, Sultandağı District Agriculture and Forest Manager Halil Ibrahim Onder and Uludag Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association Vice President Dr. Senih Yazgan joined.

In his opening speech, Uçak said that in order to protect their existing markets in the export of cherries and enter new markets such as the Far East, new export-oriented quality products are essential and that they work together with all the stakeholders of the sector in this regard. “We are meeting with cherry producers in Kemalpaşa in February and said,“We ​​have been visiting all manufacturers since we took office. Not only cherries, but also other local producers in our own regions are visiting and provide the necessary information" he added.

Hayrettin Uçak gave the information that Germany was the first country with the share of 84.4 million dollars and he also said: "Russia chose Turkish cherries by 31,4 million dollars. Norway took the third rank with 8 million dollars.  In 2018 we exported cherries to 52 countries. Furthermore Turkish cherry will get a large market share in China on condition that quarantine procedures in the Agreement between China and Turkey completed. As a result we expect the amount of our cherry exports exceeds 200 million dollars this year."
